At the end of every day, I always ask myself “what did I do for our users today”. This simple exercise helps keep priorities straight. When I found myself avoiding this question because I was embarrassed by the answer, I knew my time was up.
I’ve been thinking about that introspective question since Bardin wrote it in mid-February. It struck a nerve because I’ve spent many more days of my career doing process work than shippable work, with the subconscious idea—or fallacy—that the former was all in service of the latter.
Here’s to flipping that ratio around.
